Alberto's Journey

My name is Alberto Zambrano, I was born in Monterrey, Mexico in 1962 & had the blessing of being raised on a great ranch! The name of our family ranch is “Alcon” which my father also named Alberto came up with, as it is the first 2 letters of his name (Alberto) & the first 3 letters of my Mother’s name (Connie).

My parents were very lucky to be able to study in the United States in the early 1950’s, which was a tradition in their family. They did the same for their kids, me & my 3 younger sisters. I was sent to study in Mississippi, my oldest sister studied in Switzerland, my middle sister actually wanted to stay & study in Mexico and the youngest one studied in Paris. We all had great experiences growing up in a different country.

Before coming to the U.S., I studied Graphic Design in Monterrey; I spent some time in Europe (Spain), Switzerland, France, Norway, Finland, Portugal, Italy, Germany & Russia. I worked for the 1986 World Cup in Mexico & from there I went to the Caribbean and worked on an American fishing boat. After a great time & experience doing that, I returned to Monterrey, Mexico & began working at Perless Pumps, which ironically was the same company that my Father got his first job at. We sold water pumps across South America as well as into Saudi Arabia. I then moved on to work for my Father’s Brother’s company, which manufactured & sold safety equipment for factory workers.

I still felt that I had not found “my place” in the world & then in 1993 I met Bill McGannon of Dallas, a great man & owner of McGannon & Associates which was & still is a furniture wholesaler with years of experience in the furniture industry. I asked him if he would be interested in doing something with me, he jumped at the idea immediately & thus begins the story of Durango.
