My name is Alberto Zambrano. I was born in Monterrey, Mexico in 1962 & had the blessing of being raised on a great ranch! The name of our family ranch is “Alcon” which my father, also named Alberto, created from the first 2 letters of his name and the first 3 letters of my Mother’s name, Connie.
My parents were very blessed to be able to study in the United States in the early 1950’s, which was a tradition in their family. They continued the tradition for myself and three sisters. I studied in Mississippi. One sister studied in Switzerland, another in Paris and one decided to stay and study in Mexico. We all had great experiences growing up in a different country.
Before coming to the U.S., I studied Graphic Design in Monterrey. I spent time in Spain, Switzerland, France, Norway, Finland, Portugal, Italy, Germany & Russia. I worked for the 1986 World Cup in Mexico & from there I went to the Caribbean and worked on an American fishing boat.
After a wonderful European experience, I returned to Monterrey, Mexico & began working at Peerless Pumps, which ironically was where my Father had his first job. We sold water pumps across South America as well as into Saudi Arabia. I then moved on to work for my Father’s brother’s company, which manufactured & sold safety equipment for factory workers. I still felt that I had not found “my place” in the world.
In 1993 I met Bill McGannon of Dallas, a great man & owner of McGannon & Associates which was & still is a furniture wholesaler with years of experience in the furniture industry. I asked him if he would be interested in doing some business with me. He jumped at the idea immediately and thus begins the story of Durango. Now, 20 years later, thanks to incredible customers and our great staff, I am still here living my dream!
